Start your adventure as you are picked up from your accommodation in Yogyakarta and travel to the magnificent Borobudur Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not just beautiful but also awe-inspiring as it stands as a remarkable ancient monument recognized globally.

 

You will explore its intricate details and witness the amazing 504 life-sized Buddha statues, each of them a wonder itself as it was carved from a single stone. One of the most breath-taking moments in your journey is observing the grandeur and unparalleled uniqueness of the seated Buddha statues. On top of these wonders, the temple also has 2,672 relief panels that thread together an incredible narrative that provides an even more in-depth knowledge of Buddha's teachings and the rich historical tapestry that envelopes this stunning place.

 

Afterwards, you will visit the Chicken Church, a church shaped like a chicken. Another name of Chicken Church is Gereja Ayam. It is the common nickname for an unusually shaped church in the area of Magelang in Central Java, Indonesia. The nickname, which translates to "chicken church" in English, arose because the structure's shape resembles a hen to most onlookers, although the builder intended it to be the shape of a dove. The building was erected during the 1990s by Daniel Alamsjah, who claimed to have been inspired by God to build a prayer house through a dream he had in 1989. Alamsjah is Christian, but envisioned Gereja Ayam as a place to welcome followers of any religion to pray or meditate.

 

The next visit, you will be taken to visit Mendut Temple. It is located in Mendut village, Mungkid sub district, Magelang regency, about 8 km before Borobudur temple. Mendut Temple is a Buddhist temple which was built by Indra king as a first king of Syailendra dynasty in 824 ADS, it was stated that the Indra king has built a sacred building called “venunavayang” which means bamboo forest. If this is true, then certainly Mendut temple was built in the 8th century AD. This means this temple earlier than Borobudur Temple, which was built by Samaratungga king, Wangsa Syailendra in 850 M. You need about 30 – 45 minutes to look around the temple.

 

After you are finished with Mendut temple, you will be dropped off hotel in Yogyakarta. End of service.

  • 06.30 – 07.00 am -> Pick up Hotel in Yogyakarta (city area)
  • 07.00 – 08.30 am -> Drive directly to Borobudur temple
  • 08.30 – 11.00 am -> Explore the temple
  • 11.00 – 11.20 am -> Proceed to Chicken Church
  • 11.20 – 12.00 pm -> Enjoy Chicken church (Gereja Ayam)
  • 12.00 - 13.00 pm -> Stop for lunch in local restaurant near temple (own your own/Optional)
  • 13.00 – 13.20 pm -> Continue to Mendut Temple
  • 13.20 – 14.00 pm -> Enjoy the small temple
  • 14.00 – 15.30 pm -> Transfer back hotel. Tour ends.
